Cordelia's Jig - Flute Choir

by The Emerald Ruby

/

about

Cordelia’s Jig is inspired by the imagination and whimsy of Anne Shirley from L.M Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. This classic book, filled with rolling country sides, cottages and simple joy’s evokes the lilting sounds of tin-whistle on the wind.
Irish folk music has also influenced the creation of this work, both structurally and tonally.

Many of the accompaniment lines mimic the drone accompaniment of Uilleann pipes, which are the traditional bag pipes of Ireland. The melodic structure features an A melody and a B melody. The repetitions of these melodies are divided by a short bagpipe type interlude.

This work is 2m 14s in length, making it the perfect pallet cleanser in a long serious concert. The arrangement features flexible instrumentation allowing for a full sound without access to Alto, Bass and Contrabass flutes.
